Why do I need Anti Virus software?

What is TRVProtect and why is it better than a «conventional» anti virus product?

Conventional Anti Virus products work in a «standalone» mode. This means that they will update from the Internet but YOU are responsible for ensuring that the product is:

Correctly installed & configured
Updated successfully

If you do not correctly configure a conventional anti virus product, you may:

Not detect certain types of viruses
Severely impact the performance and general functioning of your PC

TRVProtect is a Managed Desktop Service configured via TRV Security’s Configuration Servers. This means that we maintain the optimal scanning configuration on your PC and change the configuration when new viruses become a threat.

TRVProtect also included the unique Outbreak Prevention Protection System. This provides fast and reliable protection for new viruses long before other anti virus products can detect them.


What is Trend Micro's OfficeScan anti virus software?

TRVProtect is a Managed Desktop Service that makes use of Trend Micro’s OfficeScan Corporate Edition anti virus software. Trend Micro is a world leading supplier of anti virus software supplying OfficeScan Corporate Edition to protect the world’s leading companies.

Beyond anti virus protection, Trend Micro’s OfficeScan software provides many other security features such as a personal firewall, anti SPYWARE, Outlook and Outlook Express protection and a anti virus module to protect your PDA wireless device.

OfficeScan Corporate Edition also includes an Outbreak Prevention system allowing TRV Security to protect your PC or Server from new viruses and other security threats. This unique service allows our security professionals to analyze the risk of new viruses and to ensure that your PC or Server is protected as fast as possible; even before updates are available.


Can I try TRVProtect before purchased it?

Yes! To ensure that our Managed Desktop Service meets you expectations, you may download a fully functional trial version and install it on your PC or Server. This trial version will work for a period of 7 days; however, you can extend this to a 30-day trial period by registering on our web site. Registering your Trial version also gives you added Outbreak Prevention Protection against new viruses and other security threats.

If you do not purchase TRVProtect before the end of the trial period, the software will be automatically deactivated and you will notice that the blue icon will turn red. When the software is disabled, your PC or Server will no longer be protected!! Ensure to purchase your one year TRVProtect service before the trial period has expired!


Does TRV Security collect personal information about my computer or Internet usage?

Your TRVProtect software is in communication with our Configuration Servers to ensure that you are fully protected and that the software is functioning correctly. To achieve this, it is necessary to collect some technical information such as:

If you computer is ON or OFF
Your IP address and computer name
Number and names of viruses detected
Windows version

TRVProtect does not in any way give access to any files on your computer nor does it collect information about your Internet browsing habits.

All personal data are handled in line with European Data Protection Directives and will not under any circumstances be divulged to any third parties.

What do the different TRVProtect icons mean?

It is important that you are aware of the different icons. The table below summarized the different icons as well as their meanings:

«Normal»- Your computer has connected successfully to TRV Security None
«Disconnected» - Either your computer is not connected to the Internet or there is a temporary network problem. Ensure that you are connected to the Internet

«Outdated» - Your computer does not have the latest updates. Your computer may be at risk from new viruses. Perform a «Manual Update» If this problem persists, contact the TRV Security Helpdesk.
«Scanning Inactive» – There may be a problem with your computer and / or your TRVProtect installationRestart your computer. If the problem persists check that the OfficeScanNT Real Time Scanning Service is running. If required, contact TRV Security Helpdesk for assistance
«Scan Now, Manual Scan or Scheduled Scan» is running.None
«Scanning Disabled» – Your 30 day Trial period has expired and TRVProtect has been disabled. Your PC is NOT PROTECTED AGAINST VIRUSESEnsure that you have purchased your TRV Protect software. Go to Purchase to purchase your TRVProtect service


How can I scan my PC to ensure that there are no viruses or Spyware?

On your blue icon, simply:

Right click and select «OfficeScan Main»
This will open a screen similar to the following:



Select the folders that you wish to scan and hit the «Scan» Box. You will see a progress bar showing the files being scanned.



Damage Clean Up Service:

If you hit the «Clean» box, your TRVProtect service will scan the system for any malicious software that may be running and also remove any dangerous COOKIES

How can I check the virus and Firewall logs?

STEP 1) Firewall Introduction:

TRVProtect stores all Viruses detected as well as all Firewall violations in a log file on your computer.
You can see these logs as follows:

Right click on the blue icon and selection OfficeScan Main
Select the Log Report tab to see the following screen:



My computer is infected with a virus, but TRVProtect is unable to remove it. What should I do?

In some cases, Anti Virus software may be able to detect a virus but may be unable to remove it. If you have this problem, it may be necessary to remove the virus manually. The Trend Micro web site gives full instructions on how to manually remove such viruses. Simply type the name of the virus below and we will take you to Trend Micro’s Virus Information pages:

 

What is the purpose of the registration process?

TRVProtect is a Managed Antivirus Service based on Trend Micro OfficeScan software. This means that we monitor your antivirus software to ensure that it is functioning correctly and your computer remains virus and spyware free.  To achieve this, we maintain a Management Console that contains a list of each and every computer that we protect.  The Registration process allows us to identify your computer and to activate it for the full 30-day Trial period via our Management Console.

If during the Trial period you purchase our service, we simply activate your antivirus software from our console for a one-year period.  You may purchase our TRVProtect service HERE
